A Hoosier Profile on Victor Oladipo Next up in my daily Hoosier Profiles is junior guard Victor Oladipo , a fan favorite with big time athleticism. Today marks the sixth installment of my 17 part series where I'll look at every member of the 2012 13 Indiana basketball team. I'll have a new Hoosier Profile leading up to the official start of practice on Friday, Oct. 12. The annual Hoosier Hysteria event his year will be on Saturday night, Oct. 20, at Assembly Hall. Here's my profile on Oladipo:I think one of the big reasons people are so optimistic about Indiana's chances this season is the potential for Oladipo. He is quick, can handle the ball and is a solid defender. His weakness has been his shot but he spent the summer working on that more than anything else. If he can force teams to guard him from the perimeter it will just open up things that much more for Cody Zeller and company. Oladipo is one of those players who is simply fun to watch because of the skill set he brings to this Indiana basketball team. I could see him starting again at the 3, or be the first sub off the bench at the shooting guard spot. BIG TIME UPS : Think about Oladipo and it's easy to picture him soaring through the air for a dunk either in a game or in a slam dunk contest. 1 Wildcats. This dunk was nominated for the dunk of the year in 2012. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY: Oladipo is coming off a sophomore season where he played an instrumental role in leading Indiana to the Sweet Sixteen. Oladipo started 34 of 36 games, averaged 26.7 minutes per game, and averaged 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He reached double figures in scoring 15 times including a high of 23 points at Purdue. OLADIPO SAYS HE'S A GUARD: No surprise, right. Well, Oladipo believes that many people look at him as a small forward and that he's much more comfortable playing a guard spot. "I think because I didn't shoot the ball all that well last year people automatically think of me as a small forward or a power forward to something crazy like that. And that's all fine expect I believe I'm a guard. I work on guard skills. And I'm just going to continue to work on those skills so I can help my team win.'' LET'S TALK SUPERLATIVES: Oladipo's career high for scoring was 23 points at Purdue on Feb. 4, 2012. He also had eight rebounds in that game, just missing a double double. His career high for rebounds is 10 against Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament in 2012. His career high for assists is six against VCU in the NCAA Tournament last year and his top game for steals was four against UMBC. HIGHLIGHTS OF HIS FIRST SEASON AT IU: As a freshman, Oladipo played in 32 games with five starts. He hit 54.7 percent from the field in an average of 18 minutes per game. He averaged 3.7 rebounds per game. His first double figure scoring game was 12 points against Northwestern State on Nov. 26, 2010. He would score in double figures 10 times his first year with a high of 16 against Colorado in the tournament in Las Vegas. He averaged 7.4 points per game.
